# Find a card by cert

> Look a graded slab up by the certificate number on its label.

Scope: `read:catalog` · MCP tool: `find_card_by_cert`

Finds the CatchBack cards whose grading certificate number is exactly `cert`: normally one. Only graded slabs carry a cert, so the lookup covers `pokemon`, `onepiece`, `sports` and `riftbound`; watches, luxury goods and raw singles never match. A card we've retired from our inventory isn't matched here, though [Get a card](https://catchbackcards.mintlify.site/partner-api/endpoints/get-card.md) still finds it by id. Like Get a card, it returns the [card object](https://catchbackcards.mintlify.site/partner-api/card-object.md) only.

**cert** `string` *required*

The cert number exactly as printed on the slab, e.g. `84512377`: 4–24 letters, digits or hyphens.

**grading\_company** `string`

Only slabs from this grader, e.g. `PSA`, `CGC`, `BGS`: 2–10 letters, matched without regard to case. A slab with no grader on file counts as `PSA`.

A lookup is cached for up to a minute.

The cert you sent.

**grading\_company** `string | null`

The grader you sent, in capitals, or `null`.

**cards** `object[]`

The [card objects](https://catchbackcards.mintlify.site/partner-api/card-object.md) carrying this cert. Normally one.

## Errors

| Status | When |
| - | - |
| `400` | `cert` is missing, or isn't 4–24 letters, digits or hyphens; or `grading_company` isn't 2–10 letters |
| `404` | No CatchBack card carries this cert (from that grader, if you sent one). The body repeats `cert` and `grading_company` |
| `500` | We couldn't run the lookup. Retry with backoff |
